Reo Diner Makes a Green Come Back

a diner
My friend in Woodbridge mentioned that the Reo Diner had undergone a significant change. "What kind of change?", was my first response. It's green. I remember the Reo Diner from years past. It was a typical diner in the New Jersey diner tradition. Salad bar and adjoining dessert case greet you as you walk in. Friendly staff, packed booths, and CNN on the television screens. I thought to myself, "a new paint job"?

Well not quite. Green, as in sustainable living, is now Reo's new mantra. I typed Winner, Winner, Diner Dinner, and found their new blog that announces their current revamp. I was inspired to go to the Reo and order from their new organic menu. The organic food was awesome, here's why. Local farmers, and creameries have partnered with the Reo. Fresh food and simple, tasty recipes are the standard. They cook nothing but organic chicken, grass fed beef; all free range . It first began with their lunch menu but they decided to go with all of their menus.

By the 90s, they began to lose their appeal; the quality of their food dwindled. Sloppy serving, overcooked, tin tasting, greasy fare all at a reasonable price. Woodbridge became very disappointed. Somewhere, somehow, somebody decided that it can't go on. Thank the stars. No more sloppy presentations, care is provided to every tasty bite.

The blog has pictures of Mayor John E McCormac; he raved about the Reo. The Reo stepped away from their shiny chrome palace and offered city hall with a free meal. It was part of a promotion called "Nothin" but a Free Meal". McCormac stated, "the Reo is one of our finest eating establishments in Woodbridge with a long and cherished history. I think they have encapsulated the meaning of sustainable living and eating healthy with their new program. Now pass me another of those BBQ cheeseburgers."

The Reo was at its greatest in the 80's. A montage of celebrity visitation is proof of its former glory; all still above the cash register. Even Bob Grant held court, during his radio days, in the back booth of the Reo. Well, now we can expect the same excitement. New York DJs Scott Shannon and Todd Petingill are scheduled to come next month and host their Morning Zoo program with a weeklong tribute to New Jersey. Winner, Winner, Diner Dinner provides coupons, stories and a .pdf of their menu. Take a look, better yet stop by and enjoy.

  1. You are right, Sonia,. Most diners have as you wrote " Sloppy serving, overcooked, tin tasting, greasy fare...".

Too bad there aren't more diners that focus on serving healthy, organic food.

  2. I think we need more healthy food diners. It would be a good alternative to the all too prevalent greasy spoon joints. In fact, eateries which serve organic dishes could become a trend if given the chance. There are many health-conscious people in society. Look at how many of us go to spas and chiropractor.
